Embankment ground strengthening, Brunel designed bridge
Geobear was contacted after GPR surveys identified voiding under the entire surface of the walkway of Hiscocks Bridge in Bath, resulting in settlement to embankments on the approaches.
Our solution
We used our ground strengthening solution to consolidate the ground with 120 injections of geo-polymer resin at 1.5m intervals, to a depth of up to 1.5m. Geobear teams also stabilised the bridge abutment walling by injecting up to 3m beneath the existing foundation. Our material expands in the ground beneath foundations filling voids and rapidly solidifying the existing soils – the consequence is a firm base for the foundation that can be measured with probe tests.
Result
We carried out the remediation works over two weeks. North-East Somerset Council were very pleased with the outcome, and local walking and environmental groups were also pleased with the choice of method as it minimised disruption and the impact to the surrounding environment.
