We are pleased to announce that we have recently appointed Michael Anderson.

Welcome to Geobear Michael!

What is your background?

I have a first class honours degree in Engineering from the University of Ulster and more than 20 years of experience in subsidence repair, piling and foundations. Ten years were at Director level. During this time I designed and managed Underpinning and Piling projects across the UK and Ireland including the largest underpinning project ever carried out in Ireland, The Ewart Building in Belfast.

When did you start with Geobear?

I started with Geobear in April 2022.

What is your position?

I am the Area Manager for Ireland covering both Residential and Commercial divisions.

What does this involve?

I am the point of contact in Ireland for Geobear. On top of the day to day design, estimating and management of subsidence repair and ground improvement projects our goal is to set up a dedicated team of Installers and Engineers in Ireland.

Using my experience and client base I will be aiming to increase market share in subsidence repair / ground improvement and more generally advise Engineers, Loss adjusters and Contractors on the benefits of polymer injection and its varied applications.

What made you apply for a position at Geobear?

With over 20 years of repairing structures using piles and reinforced concrete I had become disillusioned with my reliance on other trades, the length of time to repair and the level of disruption caused in preparing a building for a piled underpinning scheme.

Increasing costs of steel and concrete meant I was providing estimates which were only accurate for a few weeks. Given most projects are usually awarded months after tendering, this meant sending out multiple quotations which was frustrating for all parties involved.

I was always aware of polymer injection but had a chance encounter when I contacted Geobear about a project that I felt did not suit piled underpinning due to the disruption it would cause at a local manufacturing facility.

Upon speaking to Geobear I was impressed by the people, the products (and the varied applications of which I was unaware) but most of all the results that are achieved with such minimal disruption.

Based on my previous experience, I strongly believe that this is the future of foundation repair and ground improvement. We got talking and here I am.

What Area will you cover?

Ireland. I am based in Belfast but historically around 75% of my projects have been in ROI so I am well used to travelling.

When you are not at work, how do you like to spend your time?

Up until a few years ago I competed in ultra marathons and triathlons but now most of my sport is via my children. I have recently returned to playing golf and my son and I play as often as we can.
