Meet the Team with Chris Carlton

(May 17, 2022)

Name: Chris Carlton

Job Title: New Business & Key Account Director

We are pleased to announce that we have recently appointed Chris Carlton.

Chris CarltonWelcome to Geobear Chris!

What is your background?

I joined Geobear after 13 great years with Sedgwick, a leading Global Loss Adjusting business, having been responsible for leading their Subsidence and Surveying teams and more recently their Contractor Repair Network, working closely with loss adjusting colleagues and most of the top UK insurers.

I’m an RICS qualified Chartered Surveyor, and have been in management roles for 20+ years.   In the early part of my career I worked in Agriculture, Land Management, Estate Agency and Property Management as well as completing 1000’s of Commercial and Residential Mortgage and HomeBuyer surveys.

I like to think I know lots about buildings – but I always say you’re never too old to stop learning (especially when my children talk about modern music and social media!) and that is what attracted me to Geobear.  It was an opportunity to learn more about a market leading, and market changing solution, and to be closely involved in the businesses growth and development.

When did you start with Geobear?

I joined in March 2022.

What does a typical day look like for you?

It’s a cliche, but no day is ever the same.

My main activities include meeting with existing clients and listening to their needs and working with them on how best Geobear can help them develop their business and deliver for their customers, to presenting details on Geobear’s services to new clients who are interested in using our innovative product for the first time.

I work closely with our Exec, Sales, Technical and Customer Service teams, reviewing how we provide our solution to customers and clients, and looking to implement ways that enable us to continually improve what we offer.

Collaboration and sharing with colleagues and clients has always been a key focus for me, as shared ideas can lead to innovative solutions that help everybody achieve their goals.

What made you apply for a position at Geobear?

I was aware of Geobear, having worked with them on a number of projects in my previous role.  After talking with CEO Otso Lahtinen, and new Residential MD Matt Pilling, I was impressed with their vision for the future of the business, and felt that I could provide insight and support that would help the business continue to succeed and deliver on it’s goals, along with helping our clients to achieve improvements in their service offerings.

I’m also someone that is keen to challenge myself, and never become too comfortable, and Geobear with its plans for the future excited me, and the opportunity for me to develop some new knowledge and skills was a perfect fit.

What are your plans to ensure we have good relationships with our key clients and offer them a great experience?

As in all parts of life, be it personal or business, good and clear communication is key, so I’ll be holding regular review meetings with clients, completing training / CPD sessions with theirs and Geobear’s colleagues, and looking to ensure Geobear are more widely known in the market as the leading provider of Innovative Ground Stabilisation Solutions that help saves time and cost for our clients, and improve their customers level of satisfaction.

When you are not at work, how do you like to spend your time?

I’m married to Rachel and we have 3 children (Sophia, Isobel and Arthur), a dog called Mack and a cat called Tosh (after our love of Charles Rennie Mackintosh), so my time outside of work is naturally pretty hectic!

I do love to play golf, having only started a couple of years ago, and spend around 10hrs each weekend playing socially with friends, or in club competitions – my family are obviously very understanding and yes I know, I’m very, very lucky!

We travel a lot within the UK and especially love spending time in the Lake District, mainly on Ullswater with our Sit on Kayaks and then a picnic on the lakeside, or walking the stunning fells and mountains.

Rachel and I are keen followers of American Football, having been to New York to watch the NY Giants play at the MetLife stadium.  I’m hoping one day to travel to my team’s ground, the fantastic Lambeau Field in Wisconsin, the home of the Green Bay Packers.

Thanks for your time Chris.
