Interview with Ashley Gierth
(March 12, 2020)

Ashley was born in Nottingham, he is married with 3 grown-up children and currently lives in Stafford.

He is a Chartered Engineer and Manager with 30 years construction and engineering experience. Twenty- two of those years are in the rail sector, working on both the client-side and for Principal and Sub-Contractors.

Ashley has previously worked at Jarvis Rail, Balfour Beatty Rail, Grant Rail, John Laing Plc, Carillion Rail, Amcogiffen and Van Elle.

His rail career began with track renewals discipline, surveying, designing, and building both plain line track and S&C (Switches and Crossings).  He progressed into design management, project management, and contract management roles, before holding Director positions.

Alongside this Ashely has also worked in the fields of Rail Systems, General Civils, Ground Engineering and OHLE.

Why have you decided to be associated with Geobear?

Geobear is looking to expand its rail business and needed someone with a sound engineering background, with many contacts in the rail industry to help grow the division.

The company is a specialist ground engineering contractor, with a unique product, global presence, proven history, and has great ambition. The fit was right, so I joined.

How can you help accelerate the progress?

Having worked for a number of companies in my career to date, it has allowed me to form friendships and working relationships with many people.  Like anything in life knowing the right people is key to moving forward and opening up opportunities. I have built good teams and been successful wherever I have worked.

How do you see Geobear adding value to the rail market?

Geobear offers a product that is less intrusive than more conventional construction methods, therefore reducing construction programme length.

The product has a > 120-year design life and is free from carbon, being inorganic. The material is light in weight and is 95% cured in minutes, which means handing back into service a railway line is immediate.

The real value add is being able to reduce overall costs to Network Rail by not needing lengthy possessions or blockades and allowing the railway to operate with little to minimum disruption. As the slogan says “we keep your world running.”

What are the core benefits?

Environmentally friendly

Design life

Curing time

Less intrusive
