Geobear – Balance for Better

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

This years theme is #balanceforbetter. Everyone has a part to play, all the time, everywhere. We are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence.

Geobear is a contractor with a global presence and we invented the concept of non-disruptive ground engineering by injecting expanding geopolymer to fix subsidence or settlement problems.

Geobear are placed within the construction industry and this has long been considered a male dominated world. Our pledge for balance for better is to encourage women to reconsider this stereotype and pursue a career in construction.

Emma Talbot Baker (Southern Commercial Manager) for Geobear joined the company in 2016. Emma began her career in the Residential Sector.

In 2017, Emma moved into the commercial team and is building experience in dealing with highly engineered and complex projects.

Emma is our perfect example to aspire other women with a career in the construction industry.

Emma comments,

“Variety is the spice of life and working as any Area Manager means there is never a dull day. You never know what the next project will be, one day you will be visiting a beautiful old church, next a factory running 24 hours a day where shut down is not an option.

There have been many changes in attitudes since I started working in the industry in 2010, now it is rare for anyone to comment on the fact that I am female and opportunities are there for women who dare to put themselves forward.
