Geobear has won the Project of the Year value £2-5m at the 2021 Construction News Specialists Awards.
The inspirational winners of the 2021 Construction News Specialists Awards were crowned in front of the industry on Tuesday 19 October at The Brewery in London.
Celebrating its 17th year, the Construction News Specialists Awards brought together more than 500 of the UK’s leading specialist contractors for an evening of celebration, recognition and networking.
Following a rigorous judging process with an independent panel of judges, Geobear won in recognition of The Shugborough tunnel project. The judges commented:
“They scored highly in all judging criteria most notably in the areas of efficient Health & Safety, innovation and a focus on sustainability. The successful delivery of this project represents a culmination of careful planning, well-considered technical solutions, robust logistics and a sensitive approach to safeguarding the workforce and the environment in and around the worksite.
The project was delivered across 50 nighttime possessions in a railway tunnel on the busy West Cost mainline. The team worked in collaboration with their Client (Network Rail) and their specialist team to offer an innovative alternative solution to the brief and deliver it safely in accordance with the agreed programme, within budget and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
The work was undertaken in a constrained environment and completed by Geobear’s specialist in-house resource in compliance with the stringent Rules of Route with minimum disruption to the surrounding flora and fauna of the surrounding National Trust land and with no HSQE accidents/incidents. The Shugborough Tunnel project epitomises an exemplar delivery of a complex engineering challenge and the project team should be rightfully proud of their achievements in this respect. Geobear is a very worthy winner of this award.”
On the ceremony, Lem Bingley, editor of Construction News said:
“It was great to return to a live event and to celebrate the achievements of the industry’s many talented subcontractors. Over the past 18 months, throughout the pandemic, specialists have worked incredibly hard to deliver the results their clients need. Very often they have done so under tremendous pressure to get the job done while keeping everyone on site as safe as humanly possible.
“It was brilliant to see the scale of their work recognised. The CN Specialists Awards winners amply demonstrate how much our sector is doing, through innovation and collaboration, to deliver outstanding projects while contributing to communities, training the next generation, and rising to the challenges of climate change.”
